The Annapurna Himal is a vast massif of several peaks above 7,000 m, part of the range forms a natural amphitheatre known as the Annapurna Sanctuary. Annapurna base camp trek is famous for trekkers. The principal peaks of the western portion of the great Annapurna Himal, including Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Fang, Annapurna, Ganagapurna, Annapurna 3 and Machhapuchhare, are arranged almost precisely in a circle about 10 miles in diameter with a deep glacier-covered amphitheatres at the centre..
Consequently this trekking is very popular, especially between the months of September to November and March to May when the route can get very crowded. During winter numbers of trekkers reduces as walking both difficult and hazardous because of the heavy snowfall. Avalanches are also common particularly along the last section of the route and this is only possible if you stick to the Modi khola valley. Entering a narrow valley we pass directly below Machhapuchhare before reaching the Sanctuary, a veritable home of the Gods. We have a day to explore this magnificent place before returning to Pokhara via a different route. This is a Moderate to strenuous alpine trek offering close-up mountain views equal to any in the Himalaya.
Highlights of the trek
