About upper Mustang Lo-Manthang reason
Mustang is a beautiful spot fulfilled by temples & numerous monasteries. Surrounded by northern snowy mountainous chains, Mustang is the most fascinating destination for the trekkers & the mountaineers. Although it was open for the tourists in 1990, the tourist arrival here started only in 1992. Speedily blowing gushy air, desolate desert, mound, and settlement inside the rocky cave, celestial houses made of local design & Buddhist stupas fluttering with its religious standards are the specialties of Mustang. The newly visitors are seemed welcoming smilingly by mount Nilgiri & Dhaulagiri; but an inexperienced- one may feel agitated in the beginning.
The Lomanthang capital of Mustang is the fort inhabited by 193 houses. Lomanthang has been encircled by 856- meter long wall. This fort was encircled in this way to defend from the frequent attack of the then Jumla state which falls in the most upper area. It needs 6 days trek to reach Lomanthang from lower Mustang. No plants or the greeneries are found in this area. But the interesting is that the Upper Mustang and the Wall City of Lo-Manthang are unique places in the earth from the point view of its geographical location, climate, vegetation, and its phase of civilization. According to historians and archaeologists, the civilization of Mustang is one of the most ancient human civilizations renowned as 'Cave Civilization'.
Now a days Mustang has become a destination for those who are curious enough to know the ancient civilization and to see the aboriginal characteristic of the nature. Politically, Mustang is a place where the existence of a king is very much consolidated and respected as an incarnation of God. There had been monarchy even before the unification of Nepal and after the unification of Nepal under Gorkha dynasty, the monarchy of Mustang continued to be existed.
The landscape of Mustang trekking region is a barren moonscape of eroded sandstone pillars and discontinuous moraine terraces, which together present a colourful mosaic made up principally of earthen reds, yellows and brown. Mustang trekking is relatively easy trekking along the permitted route to Lo Manthang, which lies in the very heart of Mustang. The trek to Mustang is through an almost treeless barren landscape. Mustang is one of the few places in the world that has long-lived a very close-niche life and that region was, until recently, inaccessible to outsiders. This isolation helped the people of Mustang to maintain their lifestyle and heritage that remained almost unchanged for centuries. Hidden behind the majestic Himalayan ranges of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, Mustang is filled with beautiful trekking zones, Special Trekking area and Permits are required by trekkers when they visit this region with government registered trekking company of Nepal and Only camping /tented treks are allowed into the region . Mustang trekking is one of Nepal's most mysterious and least known kingdoms. The ancient and mysterious ' Kingdom of Lo ' (the proper title for Mustang) is geographically and culturally a part of Tibet. It is this area which we will explore fully, discovering the wonders of the architecture, language, culture and traditions which are almost purely Tibetan in this once-upon-a-time mystical kingdom. The capital of the Mustang district is actually Jomsom but the Tibetan influenced area north of Kagbeni is known as Upper Mustang. This isolated kingdom of Mustang prospered in the 15th Century, when its strategic location enabled it was once an important route for crossing the Himalaya between Tibet and Nepal, and many of the old salt caravans passed through Mustang.
